MEET KATHERINE

My family has lived in our Assembly District for over 150 years. AD 51 is my home.

As your assemblymember, I will ensure that AD 51 will still be an inclusive, healthy, and welcoming home for everyone 150 years from now.

WHAT I’M FIGHTING FOR

Green-New-Deal-Brooklyn
A GREEN NEW DEAL

Bringing the Green New Deal to our district.

I want to make our waterfront a staging space for offshore wind farm turbines to bring back strong industrial jobs. And I want to bury the BQE and reserve the real estate produced for carbon-neutral affordable housing. And I will fight Industry City rezoning to ensure that we control our future.
Sanctuary-State-Brooklyn
A SANCTUARY STATE

Making our district safe for everyone.

Court employees are some of ICE's most valuable informants. Court workers should not be able to see immigration status or place of birth when people go to court, unless necessary. This small change would hinder no one from doing their job and yet would protect thousands from the predations of ICE. No one should have the power to inform on their neighbors.
Single-Payer-Healthcare-Brooklyn
HEALTHCARE FOR ALL

The establishment of a single-payer healthcare system in New York state.

The only way to make sure that happens is to elect enough new members to push it through. Establishment candidates like Assemblyman Ortiz are not going to push for radical legislation. I will.

LEARN MORE ABOUT THE ISSUES

WHAT IS NEW YORK STATE ASSEMBLY?

New York State Legislature works with the governor to make laws, set the state's budget, and raise/lower taxes. It's comprised of two chambers: the New York State Senate and Assembly. The Senate has 63 senators, while the Assembly has 150 members. Representatives from both houses serve two-year terms without term limits and all seats are up for re-election in 2020. Primaries will take place on June 23, 2020 and the general election will be held on November 3, 2020.

Don't forget to vote! This is your chance to determine who represents you and your views at the state level. Katherine Walsh is passionate about supporting the neighborhood she grew up in. Learn more about the issues she'll fight for and voting in Assembly District 51.
